Semester 1.5
ARCHITECTURE & ENVIRONMENT
Project 1 (Groupwork)
In Assignment 1, we are tasked with creatively assessing daylight and thermal comfort issues in modern houses in a group of five, with a focus on incorporating passive design solutions. Successful completion of the assignment aims to enhance our understanding of effective environmental design principles and building practices. Tasks include choosing specific spaces with daylighting and thermal comfort issues, collecting data through lux readings and temperature measurements, creating floor layouts with tabulated findings, ideating passive design interventions with before-and-after visuals.
Project 2 (Groupwork)
Assignment 2 focuses on conducting a case study on green buildings in Malaysia accredited by national or international bodies aiming to raise awareness about the importance of environmentally conscious designs and practices in architecture. The assignment highlights the growing trend of incorporating environmental factors into building designs but notes the lack of widespread recognition for buildings that achieve better energy performance and create healthy living and working environments. The objectives include promoting sustainable practices, facilitating learning on green building through case studies, and relating environmental design considerations to local regulations and sustainability rating tools.
