Semester 1

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I

Project 1 (Individual)

Project 1, titled "Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles," centers on introducing a fundamental understanding of architectural design elements and principles, emphasizing processes and approaches to generate ideas and create geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamps) and 3D forms (models). Primary elements and ordering principles serve as the foundational language for expressing and explaining design concepts.

Project 2 (Groupwork)

Project 2, titled "Structure and Body : Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration" involves designing and constructing a 1:1 structure for a specific activity using Bamboo, placed in a real dormant green space to activate its use. The exploration includes understanding the nature of Bamboo, construction details, joints, joinery, and the integration of other supporting materials like rope, steel, and tensile fabric. The project aims to relate architectural design to space and its users, emphasising how design can be an agent of change.

Project 3 (Individual)

Project 3, titled "Space and Sensory: Self-Exploration through Spaces" delves into the idea that architecture should not only address functional needs but also satisfy the human soul, considering aspects like mind, emotion, and will. Drawing on knowledge from previous projects, I re-examine my models from Project 1, developing them into Sensorial Spaces with volumetric boundaries of 30m³. The focus is on anticipating users' journeys, experiences, and emotions. The project aims to explore the interplay of design principles, structure, materiality, anthropometry, ergonomics, and architectural narrative in creating practical yet poetic spaces.

DESIGN COMMUNICATION

Project 1

Project 1, titled "The Starchitect," involves exploring renowned architects, with my chosen focus being Le Corbusier. The primary objective is to become acquainted with influential figures in architecture, understanding their architectural styles and life stories. The project also includes experimenting with composition and layout to craft a captivating A3 poster featuring the architect's portrait alongside depictions of three buildings designed by them.

Project 2

Project 2, focusing on the Farnsworth House aims to enhance design communication skills through architectural graphics. The project's learning outcomes include the illustration of architectural forms and spaces through manual drawings and the interpretation of visual information using two-dimensional and three-dimensional orthographic drawings. The tasks encompass producing plan drawings, elevations, sections, axonometrics, and perspective drawings.

Project 3

Integrating with Project 3 from Architectural Design I, Project 3 focuses on the Presentation Board and Model Making Process. The introduction emphasises the significance of presentation boards in conveying the design process, acting as a medium for communication and showcasing artistic skills. Similarly, architectural models serve as tools to express design ideas at various stages. The project aims to introduce and enhance 3D modelling skills for architectural projects, emphasising visualisation and effective communication of architectural concepts.

ARCHITECTURE, HISTORY & THEORY

Project 1 (Groupwork)

Engaged in a collaborative effort, Project 1 entails an Analysis Report on chosen historical structures in Malaysia, with our group selecting Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. Our task involves generating a digital A4 booklet for research documentation and a tangible A1 Augmented Reality Poster. The primary objective centers on preserving architectural heritage through thorough documentation and analysis of the selected building.

2) AR Poster & Video Demonstration

Project 2 (Individual

Project 2 centers on analysing sketches of heritage buildings spanning five distinct eras. The goals involve conducting comparative research analysis, acquainting us with research processes, and instilling visual and critical thinking in architectural design. My assignment was to research and analyse five chosen buildings from a given list, documenting the outcomes in a colored A4 Sketches booklet that encompasses diverse aspects of each structure.
